To Hide Behind

When beauty is gone and misery is all that remains,
Open your eyes and break away from your chains.
When the sun has been blocked out and all you can feel is the rain,
Turn up your face to the sky and release all your disdain.
Brave a smile,
When everyone else is hostile.
Hold in your tears,
So that no pain appears.
Laugh when you want to cry,
Even though you may have no ally.
These become my own laws,
Although I am still living without a cause.
I'll hide behind my smile at least for now,
Even when my own existence, I disavow.
