“Cautious and Weary”
Cautious and weary my hand lifts
slowly to touch your fair face
smoothly glide across your skin
it sparks a series slideshow of memories
flashing brightly before my stunned eyes
I love seeing all the things that we had done
watch you pull away in your car down the street
taillights dying into the night as you drive home
chill runs quickly down my spine
your embrace felt so good and familiar
this is what I missed more than anything
I cannot save your family for they don’t see you
In the same way that I do
It was so damn good to finally see you once again
you looked so gorgeous like before you left
put all the seemingly impossible dreams back in my head
yeah all the smiles that I gave to you
and how red they made your skin
for every one of those you gave me a reason to live
even when you turned away I did not
I never stopped loving you
there have been few others since and none like you
I still watch every sunset and picture you
with my notebook I inscribe of us
now more than ever I can see that I still need you
even just to gather up our collective baggage
maybe something good is gonna happen
I guess I can only hope for the best now
cautious and weary my hand lifts
to write out these dreams I’ve had
fearing oh so much that you will not agree
but it is really better than it at first seems
pause this memory slideshow until I see you next
until I see you next……
