Desolation

it creeps into the mind
like a shadow to a corner:
slowly,
quietly.
and it slithers,
and it slides,
as it crawls to the heart
like a tear to an eye:
painfully,
jealously.
and it feeds on salvation,
and false hopes,
as it spreads through the body
like Fire to fields:
violently,
angrily.
and it's armed with a darkness
that murders the soul,
and the black consumes you until you become
like a shadow to a corner:
Empty,
Alone.
