The full moon is out tonight.
WIth clouds scudding across the sky.
The wind is howling through the trees,
Whipping my hair over my eyes.
No one is out tonight,
And the street lights are turned down low.
Fear grips my heart,
I'm out here all alone.
I try to stick to the light under the lamps,
But they only stay on for so long.
The lights go out,
And I freeze in my tracks.
Soon approaching footsteps,
Confirm my worst fear.
I look about frantically for a place to hide.
But I can't see, it's too dark,
And the footsteps are growing louder.
So I run straight ahead,
Hoping to find shelter.
I stumble and fall,
Hitting a root.
I know that I am in the woods,
Because of the sound of the laves under my feet.
I grope around in the darkness, my hands stretched out before me.
I find a tree and crouch down,
Trying as best as I can to hide.
I listen in the darkness,
Hearing only my breath.
Soon the footsteps come again,
They are so much closer this time!
My heart begins to pump faster,
I can feel it beating in my throat.
My limbs being to shake,
And my body breaks out in a cold sweat.
I start to pray, almost hysterically in my head, that it won't find me.
But I soon know it's coming towards the woods.
Footsteps in the grass,
Make me shudder each time I hear a foot come down.
It whispers my name, a masculine voice.
How did he know my name?!
He steps closer,
He's in the woods now.
Soon he'll find me!
I jump up, frantic,
And push past the dark figure.
I hear him stumble,
Then he runs after me.
Tears stream down my face,
I'm so scared!
What does he want from me?
Wait! He cires out,
Catching hold of my jacket.
I scream and step out of the garment,
And run faster than before.
He's chasing after me again.
I look up ahead of me,
One of the street lights is still on.
I can see a bridge up ahead!
I run faster,
With a silent prayer that I will make it.
My breath is coming in so short,
And all my muscles ache.
I have to reach the bridge!
I have to get away!
I'm under the street light now,
And almost to the bridge.
My assailant sees what I'm planning.
He cries out, No!
I don't listen to him because I have to get away.
I reach the railing of the bridge,
And climb on top.
No! He practically screams.
He reaches for me once more,
But it's too late, I'm soaring through the air.
I turn as I'm falling,
And I'm shocked at what I see.
The figure is illuminted by the street light,
My father is leaning over the railing,
Reaching out towards me.
I hit the water,
And all is lost.
He was just coming to take me inside,
I had stayed out past dark.
