“Life Preserver”
You have reached your love
to the deepest darkest parts of my soul
scratching an itch that gets no attention
I need you around to keep me smiling
you are the life preserver dangling around my neck
like the scars that you left they’re all for me
you skinned me with the last kiss we had
and my mother is asking me just where I’ve been
and I cannot answer truthfully to her inquiries
without making her think that I have sinned
oh she cannot understand oh to be young and in love
I have tasted to salt off of your smooth skin
and we have drank in the stars wrapped up together
I have held you and cried while you held me and cried
we crack our necks just for the pleasure of that sound
and we both put down our razors in exchange for one another
I feel like I have been taught to swim in a stormy sea
no matter the weather I know I can count on you
you are the life preserver dangling around my neck
like the scars that you left they’re all for me
you skinned me with the last kiss we had
and my mother is asking me just where I’ve been
and I cannot answer truthfully to her inquiries
without making her think that I have sinned
I wear all of your jewelry on my skin
you wear all of my jewelry on your skin
and we wash away each other’s pain everyday
like that sweep of our hands across the sand
we have given ourselves a brand new clean slate
to inscribe all the words that we cannot say out loud
we will be burned at the stake by jealous hearts
that bleed to love halfway of how we do
halfway for us ten times more than any other
you are the life preserver dangling around my neck
like the scars that you left they’re all for me
you skinned me with the last kiss we had
and my mother is asking me just where I’ve been
and I cannot answer truthfully to her inquiries
without making her think that I have sinned
you are the life preserver dangling around my neck
like the scars that you left they’re all for me
you skinned me with the last kiss we had
and my mother is asking me just where I’ve been
and I cannot answer truthfully to her inquiries
without making her think that I have sinned………..
