Shrinking

I climbed the mountain and I got to the top
I didn’t think I’d ever stop
But it seemed I wasn’t right at all
The only thing to do was fall
So I go down, fighting shame
Wishing I could change my name
There’s only one thing in sight
My one and only shining light
And I’m shrinking more and more each day
I try to look up, but there’s no way
It’s dark below, and the sun blinds me
It’s impossible to even see
I look back and I see the peak
I wonder “What made me weak?”
But I take my light and then I know
I’m not at the lowest I could go
But still it feels I’m shrinking more
When all I want to do is soar
A bird will have a broken wing
But it’ll always continue to sing
And so I want to fly away
To be with the birds and sing and play
I want to be free of expectations
To have a world without the nations
But you’ve got to climb if you want to ascend
Trying to reach that peak in the end
