She wanted so painfully much
To stand out from the desolate
To differ from the permanent
Evolve into a species all her own

So she highlighted her pale skin
And glued sequins to her eyes
And threaded her neon clothes with
Woolen embers from a day’s bonfire
And the limelight was sold to her

And everyone who had the slightest trace of
Awareness
Knew just who she was
But no one with the slightest trace of
Awareness
Knew just what part of her she banished
No one knew what she had done

But she drank wine with the famous
And let all fall aside
Her life, tied together
So delicately with string
Began to crumble

And her oblivious
Began to obliterate
The walkways the she pranced on
The golden stage that she danced on
But she just kept going and going
And nothing mattered anymore

But the highlights on her body
Fell into her bloodstream
And toxic fire rushed through her veins

And she got so close to the stars
That the swallowing heat
Lick and kissed the sequins
And the glue that supplied her blind eyesight
Melted and scorched her face

The embers that held her clothes
Burst into a scream of flames
And ate her whole

She disintegrated in the pit
Of all the she had left behind
All the she had brushed aside
And her once so prized limelight faded
Into a dead shadow of her mangled bones

If only she had let her true colors show
Instead of the ones she had made for herself

thank you.
