Hiding in the corner
She hears her father coming
She closes her eyes
As she prays “God, not today”
Her boyfriend will be there
To take her to the dance
She looks so pretty now
Please don’t ruin her dress
He stumbles into her room
Takes her by the wrist
Slaps her ‘cross the face
And then the floor she hits
The dress is in the way
He tears it up the front
“Please, daddy not today”
He doesn’t hear her plea
He’s drunk and doesn’t care
He touches her in places
That he never should have touched
And did things to his girl
That should never have been done
She’s bleeding again
Crying on the floor
Passed out on the couch
Her father, satisfied, doesn’t hear the door
The cars running outside her house
As the girl gets off the ground
Bruised and bleeding
Her dress is torn
She would have been okay
If it had been another day
And slowly she walks to the door...
