That Girl Was Me

He enflamed her heart in a way no other had,
Kept her smiling in blissful enjoyment of the hours they spent together.
He could not have known how she loved him,
Nor how her heart had yearned for him in the midnight hours
As she awoke, trembling from the nightmares that plagued her dreams.
She suspected him of a similar love, though she doubted it could be as
strong as hers,
But all the same his motions were ones of great affection.
A gentle caress, the pause in a kiss, locking her eye to eye as they parted
slowly.
Yes it seemed as if his love could grow to match hers if it was not already
equal in measure.
There was nothing she would not do for him,
They had moved quickly, but she still kept certain boundarys for a time.
She had been hurt before, so she had to be wary for all her trust in him,
After all her trust only made it easier for him to one day betray her once
more into heartache.
Oh how she cared for him, for long years she had done so in secret
Till one day she discovered his love for her, held in secret for an unknown
amount of time.
She had loved him even when she was young,
Thus prooving her love to be not just strong, but also pure.
Then there was the physical aspect of their love,
They had not gone so far as perhaps they would have liked,
But their first kiss held in it something that sparked and lit up the
night.
If she could have told him one thing of it, it would be that nothing had
ever felt so right,
As if she were being reunited with a love from long ago whom she had shed
her life for,
Never knowing if his heart still beat for her alone, or if it were captured
by another as she died.
It were as if she were being reunited with a soul mate, whom she had not
loved for lifetimes past.
And with that reunited feeling came the lifting of a heartache that had been
so strong and plagued her for so long
That she had nearly given her life just to be rid of it.
He was so sweet to her, in ways no ordanary person would see,
The touch of a hand, the love hidden in a passing glance,
Those were the key to that sweetness which had endeared him to her.
This is a tale I tell of years long ago,
And I share not its ending because it is an ending I will someday see.
If you knew it not already...... That loving and beloved girl was me.
