That Cold winter's Night

The flowers won't bloom,
The sun doesn't shine,
There’s a look in my eyes
of pain so divine.
That cold winters night
Storms danced in our heads
You could not see the moon
Through the window overlooking our bed
The phone had been ringing
Nonstop since you left
I had a sense of forbidding
as I crawled into bed
Answering the phone
my nightmares fulfilled
You took heed of no cautions
this night you were killed
I couldn't believe you
to drink and drive
Knowing the slim chance
that you would come home alive
The roads were so icey
snow blowing with winds fast speed
On that cold damp night
In life you didn't succeed
So as now winters past
and the flowers have bloom
The sun is shining so vast
On this house I call home
I will stand in the doorway
With tears in my eyes
Knowing, my love,
You won't come home tonight.
