Beneath a Starry Canopy

Angel like,
His eyes are closed.
He seems so at peace,
Its the only time he is.

His tattered soul rests soundly,
Beneath this canopy of stars.
His breaths come evenly,
And I stare at him in wonder.

How could I be so lucky,
That he'd give his heart to me.
This sleeping angel,
Whom knows not how dear he is to me.

I was blessed the day he told me,
That his heart had choosen me.
It was a night much like this one,
Beneath this starry canopy.

The trees rustle slowly in the wind,
As he opens his eyes.
He looks upon me with a smile,
I briefly touch his face.

He sits up facing me,
And smiles slowly in apoligy,
"Sorry I fell asleep," he whispered,
I smile and place my finger upon his lips.

"Baby it doesnt matter,"
Awake his scars seem to brighten,
And his frown lines return.
You can see ancient pain, written upon his face.

He had a hard life,
But that was before he had met me.
I was here to make it better,
Id take care of him, he'd see.

In my heart I know,
As he smiles down at me,
That hes the one Ill love forever,
Just as he loves me.
