I needed you
I needed you to tell me
You loved me
I was too young too know you
Were not coming back
Too young too realize
That you would never push me on the swings
Or teach me to ride my bike
Or even tuck me into bed
I learned to live day to day
Without you I had to go to
They toy store
And to teach myself to color in the lines of the coloring books
I went to the first day of
School with someone else
When it should have been you
To this day I ask
Why? Why were you chosen
Though I don’t recall a lot
What I do remember
I will keep alive forever
Knowing I would have been proud to call you
Mother
