Shallow breathing
The only sound in the
tiny room
glazed eyes
following unseen shapes
roaming the walls
Lost in a hazy dream
of distortions
Blood flowing
from the bandage
soaked in perspiration
Pupils dilating
to the rhythm
of his heart.
Cheeks colourless.
Sweating anxiety,
Sheets immersed
In the salty solution
He groaned
And sunk into his blankets
Blocking the noise of the war
unheard to anyone but him
Outside the thin shield of the walls.
His cracked lips formed incomprehensible words,
With no sound emitting.
He was lost in the unheard cries
and bloodshed
not seen to anyone but him
in his mind's eye.
He smiled, then,
Eyes still unfocused,
Before he slept one last time,
And dreamed with his eyes open.
