This Torture

i flip through the channels
an uninteresting magazine about the
delinquecy of our planet
each article reads the same
"disaster, death, murder, homicide"
those words might as well be replaced with "hell"
eyes glazed over and fall to the wall
dulled from the endless hours of
high cheek bones on the television screen
repeating to me the sins
of the footsteps on the ground

will this torture ever end?

take the lives back, make their hearts beat again

will this torture ever cease?

stop them before they pull the trigger, make them see

will this torture ever end?

thank you.

i wrote this shortly after hearing about the children held hostage and
killed in russia.
