Unleashed Past

Of the past, I am not proud
The regrets peel away my skin
Revealing all the hopes and dreams concealed in the depths of despair

This shadow burns a blinding light
That shields your eyes from crossing my path
But that path never did me much good

You're calling for my pain
To sing you the sweet song
Of the scars of past days
Your smile tells me the melody has caught your ear

But the words are hidden
In the glass jar you love to shake
And it rattles me insane
Knowing one day it could drop to the floor
Unleashing my past on me once again
