To Edward – my special friend

Hello teddy, I am glad you’re here!
I snuggle up and feel your nose.
You are smart and know my fear.
You have been my friend and ally close,
I love you teddy, I love you the most.

You listened every night when I cried,
On your fur my tears were dried.
I knew every stitch and every thread,
You always waited for me on my bed.

Then when they packed me off – away,
You where there in my bag, Hooray!
I really needed to be close to you,
You helped me know what to do.

One day when I had been out,
I heard the children laugh and shout,
I ran to see what they had done,
And there you were in bits – all gone.

I gathered up the bits of fur and cried,
Down my face the new tears dried.
Your button eyes and little feet,
I packed into a bag really neat.

I said goodbye to my special friend,
You would have stayed until the end,
I vowed no more would people see my pain
Even if I looked hard, insane.

I will never forget the one true bear,
Who I loved and could never share,
You are still here deep in my heart,
You and I will never part.
