His eyes hold torn fragments,
Of things that he longs to forget.
His emotions have been dead for so long,
That his body has become a shell.
He used to think that he could stand up to anything,
That no one could hurt him.
But with forgotten tears in his eyes,
That never seem to fall,
He knows that his bravado was a lie.
The shadows dance across his face,
As the train passes each town.
He has no idea where he is going,
But he can't stay there anymore.
Broken home,
Broken love,
There's nothing left for him.
He's decided that he will start over.
New face,
New name.
No one will peg him for a shattered youth.
He has forgotten just how good,
It feels to smile.
And be held by someone,
That he loves.
He leans his head back,
Against the window.
The passing light reflects,
On his vacant eyes.
She sees him sitting on the train,
And she can feel his agony,
As if it were her own.
She recognizes the dead look,
In his eyes,
That he sends her way.
His heart calls out to hers,
As she draws nearer.
Her hand lightly touches,
The side of his face,
As she leans in closer.
I'll give your emotions back to you,
Her whispered promise,
Rings out in his heart.
He rests his head on her shoulder,
Feeling safe for the first time.
I'll protect you from now on.
I'll run and hide for you,
So that you don't have to anymore.
All of these things she promises,
And his dormant emotions,
Suddenly awaken.
His tears fall onto her shirt,
As she holds him close.
