In this time of disease and hate
I was looking for love
And you fit my idea of perfect
I was trying to show you love
To soften your hardened edges
And make you believe that life is not just about
Heartbreak and distrust
I wanted you to see the amazing things
That love is capable of
But I failed
Failed miserably

I've learned nothing from the pain of the past
Except to hurt before you get hurt
Although I knew I didn't have to play that game
Not with you
You were pure and untouched
By the ways of love
I had the oppurtunity to show you the world
But I failed
Failed terribly

I so much wanted to touch your soul
And make you aware of the beauty in life
I tried to open you up
So I could see your world
And take your pain away
I wanted to make you happy to be alive
But I failed
Failed awfully

I wanted you to give me your heart
And your love
I wanted to be your best friend, your lover
Someone you would remember forever fondly
I wanted to share sweet moments with you
That would stay in my heart forever
I desperately wanted to give you my heart
But I failed
Failed painfully
