The Race

He stands at the line
At the cry of ready
His eyes flick up
His gaze is steady

He may not be the fastest
But he’s got them all beat
For today he runs
On winged feet

‘Cause he’s
Running the strong race
Fighting the good fight
Pushing himself
With all his might
Yeah he’s
Keeping a strong pace
Running for his life
He’s never had more
Guts or fight

The crowd rises
As he takes the lead
He pushes himself
Gaining more speed

His breath catches
As he has trouble breathing
He stumbles briefly
But it’s only fleeting

’Cause he’s
Running the strong race
Fighting the good fight
Pushing himself
With all his might
Yeah he’s
Keeping a strong pace
Running for his life
He’s never had more
Guts or fight

He’s out in front
Outrunning pain and strife
Winning the race
That is his life
He doesn’t know why
He doesn’t know how
He reaches the finish
And he takes a bow

He was
Running the strong race
Fighting the good fight
Pushing himself
With all his might
Yeah he was
Keeping a strong pace
Running for his life
He’s never had more
Guts or fight

From the starting line of birth
To death, the finish line
No matter where he places
He knows he’ll be fine

As long as he’s been
Running the strong race
Fighting the good fight
Pushing himself
With all his might
Yeah he’s been
Keeping a strong pace
Running for his life
He’s never had more
Guts or fight
