She Was

She was a light
that burned black.
She was a warm
that made cold.
She was a touchable thing
I could not feel.

Her lips were crimson.
Her eyes were blue.
Her skin pale and white
and velvet to the touch.
Her golden hair fell
like the halo
of an angel.

& I knew she was
the most beautiful thing I'd ever see.
& I knew all in love was fair.
& I knew that feelings paralyzed.
but I didn't know what I would do.

I saw her dancing like an angel.
I saw her dancing like a dream.
I saw her halo fly to the floor
the moment she looked at me.

She was a rainbow of colors
as my hands grasped her pretty waist.
She was as bright as the sun
as her eyes smiled at me.

She took my hand
and I took hers.
She shook my fear
& I shook hers.
She was my dream,
& I was hers.

And we danced atop
a molten floor.
We danced across
a burning dream.
We danced until
the stars shone blue.
Until everything
was as it seemed.
