There Once Was Us

There once was a time,
When happness ruled the land.
And there once was a girl,
Who smiled when she held your hand.

There once was an innocence,
That made consequences disappear.
And there was honesty,
That made your heart seem so near.

There once was a boy,
That knew what it meant to feel.
And there was a relationship,
That seemed to great to be real.

There was a place,
Where everything felt right.
And we would wish on a falling star
That shocked the cloudless night.

And I'd fall into your arms.
You'd keep me safe.
I'd be dying in your arms,
Close to your heart.

And there once was good.
There wasn't a lie.
There was me and you.
We didn't even have to try.

There once was a car,
That took us far away.
We'd leave this sleepless haven,
And it's palm trees that sway.

There'd be nothing but us,
Protected by the moon,
And there's nothing but gravel,
The universe is in tune.

And there's only you and me,
In a sea of unfamilar faces.
It's only you and me,
In unforgiving places.

And there we are,
Happy once again.
There we are,
And it feels so right.
