The Bottle and the Blade

We fly and fall together, but you don't seem to notice.
We can save one another but you don't seem to want to.
I can take away the bottle and you can take away the blade,
But we keep offering them back as an offering of peace,
Hope, apathy, surrender, and everything in between.

We make excuses, pain, anger, and annoyance.
We make our friends go crazy from the stories.
And we make ourselves lonely, wanting to go back.

I'm the wind holding you up and the gravity pulling you down,
And you're the fall that breaks my heart, soul, and everything in between.
You're the tempting invitation back to happiness that can't exist.

We are our own everything and everybody else's nothing.
We fade in and out with glares, kind words and false pleasantries.
Being everything to one another; just memories to cling on to.
Meaning nothing to eachother; something to ignore and avoid.

Watch as we fade to black when the curtain closes.
Watch as we fall one last time as the crowd gasps.
Watch the bottle and the blade as they're absorbed
Into what we left of our hearts, a gift of sheer stubbornness.
