What was, is and Always Will Be

What was, is, and always will be…
The way you look slightly to the left when you lie,
The way you bite your nails when you’re nervous,
And the bruises you leave when you’re angry.

What was, is, and always will be.
Wearing long sleeves in the middle of summer,
Making excuses for the hand prints left on my body,
And tiptoeing around, waiting for the next explosion.

You say you’re sorry and bring me flowers,
You apologize a thousand times over.
You say it’s the last time; this time is different
But what was and is always will be.

“I know I can’t leave”, I think
“You don’t mean to hurt me
You’ve been hurt enough already
It’s my fault you’re angry”

But now I can finally see it’s not true.
I can leave; I don’t mean anything to you.
But what was and is always will be,
And I'll always be here, right next to you.
