My Enemy and My Friend

All’s she’s ever wanted,
Since she was a little girl,
Is to hear she’s gorgeous
When she gave a little twirl.

All’s she heard was that she wasn’t really pretty,
It made her cry
And made her sigh
As she silently asked herself, why?

Finally she realized that it must be about her weight
So she came up with a plan
And wrote it out to a tee.
A plan that she thought would finally set her free.

She befriended the lovely Ana
Who promised her the world
Just one thing she had to give up
And she would be a pretty little girl

So she gave it all up
Whenever she could.
When she thought she couldn’t do it
Ana yelled that she could.

Soon she hated everything
About her body even more.
She just wanted to be thin
Just to see her bones through her skin.

Every time she failed herself
The punishment got even worse.
More and more she had to give up
If she wanted to stay on course.

The scale is now her enemy and also her best friend
She tries so hard to leave Ana behind
But against these thoughts, herself she can’t defend.

It’s a love hate relationship
That will probably never end.
Until she truly loves herself,
Her thoughts will continue in this trend.
