The Fever

The sweat runs down her face.
Her fever rises.

The nurse checks her stats.
No change at all.

As the sickness rages,
She dreams of a place far away.

The sun shines bright.
She's through a field of flowers.

She's running with the wind.
She's having so much fun.

She gets faster and faster.
Her feet pound the ground.

Faster, she runs, faster,faster.
Faster, faster, and she falls.

The machines start beeping out of sync.
Something's very wrong.

One machine stops, then the second.
A mother gasps, a sister cries.

The last machine keeps beeping.
Beep, beep, beep, beep.

The pace of the beep slows.
Her body grows cold.

Beep Beep Beep Beeee...
One beep doesn't stop.

The fever has overcome.
It's all over.

She's running through the field.
Laughing, she's happy.

She's running, she's laughing.
She's finally free.
