Once upon a midnight dreaming
While I wondered restless there-
Through the halls so empty
With the darkness creeping bare.
The walls echoed whispers,
The wind rustled through;
My heart cried out
Desperate cries for you.
(And in this dream,
You died too soon.
I arrived too late
At forty-nine before noon).
One day had passed
In one week's time.
Those miserable eleven minutes
Tortured me in this dream on mine.
I looked down upon myself
While I cried, and I screamed.
My tears fell down black
To meet the rapids of a stream.
A chill came over me;
I shook with sudden alarm.
I tried to jump into the stream,
But I landed in your arms.
My dream finally halted there,
Yet I awoke with fear.
I was sitting in a lonely corner
Surrounded by tears.
So I picked my weary self up
And traveled back to my bed.
There I landed in your arms
With sweet remembrance in my head.
