“Don’t Look Down (Old Habits Die Hard)”
Straddle your memories in the air
look down on them from up here
recount each night that we lived in
wrapped tight too tight for it to be legal
sit with your arms draped over mine
run your hands across my skin
its cold down in this basement
and you’re the last warm thing here
I have an undying desire to be what you need
something that you can taste and touch
a lover that can be more permanent
look me in the eyes in this dim light
tell me what you feel when we are like this
breaking every rule and established protocol
answer my questions with a grin and a nod
show me that smile that means you’re happy
and this time oh please don’t fake it
straddle your memories in the air
watch them with me from way up here
way up here where it can be a secret
just for you and just for me
take my lighter and dip the rulebook
into its orange and yellow flame
if you want to if you want me
or at least what I can give to you
it isn’t much and it isn’t strictly PC
I know I need to realize that you aren’t like that
but I can’t stop myself oh no I cannot
straddle your memories with me
look into my eyes and not down at what
what I am trying to take you from
drape your arms around me and I will too
because I fear that I need you
just more than is right in this life
don’t leave don’t leave me
don’t leave don’t leave me
don’t leave don’t leave me now….
