To My Brother:

The house is quiet
As we sleep
Peaceful and calm
Until the anger rises
She goes through the house
All because of an argument
Spreading the fluid
Everywhere
Lighting the match
The fire spreads
Expanding the hate
The first floor is engulfed
And I awake
I am alone
Where is my brother
I stumble
As a hand grabs me
The next thing I know
I am free falling
Out of the window
My brother
Burned and crying
Saves me
I wonder why has my sister done this
Does she hate me
What have I done wrong
I am only five
Why would she want to hurt us
I must have done something wrong
As I look up
I see my room, orange and red flickering
I scream
Save 'teddy' he didn’t hurt anyone
Help him
With tears in my eyes
I sit
Alone, waiting
As the water turns the fire into smoke
Thick and gray
I search
Then a man picks me up saying
Where you going little man
I say
To find my brother he is still in there
He saved me and 'teddy'
He is a hero, where is he
He puts me down and kneels
Son there is something you should know
Your brother, he is not here anymore
He went to heaven tonight
He did what he was here to do
Saving you and 'teddy'
Now God needs him
To help up there
The fireman points up towards the sky
And my tear filled green eyes follow his finger upward
Looking at the vast sky
A star twinkles then shoots across the blackness
I say
Look there he is he really is up there
I guess that is okay
He is good and fun, we played a lot
And he always liked to help
So the days turn to years
And here I am grown
Still missing you
My brother
My hero

Thank-you
Me and 'teddy'
