The thief

Shallow breaths foretell what is to come
A weakened body, tired and numb.
A sick little girl lays on a bed.
With nothing inside practically dead.
Lukemia the culprit, too weak to fight.
She'll lose her life to this thief tonight.
Taking so many lives and crushing so many dreams.
Tearing families apart at the seams.
This thief lurks in the shadows and seldom is caught.
And rarely spares the lives of the ones who have fought.
Parents grieve their poor loss, their angel, their child.
Though they knew it was useless, the illness too vile.
And as they look in the coffin, filled with tears and with grief.
They say goodbye one last time, and shut the lid on the thief...
