There’s a place I go to hide
Where you can’t pull the covers off my eyes
You can’t pull the shades and reveal the light from outside
I kneel down there at times
I ask for things when nothing seems right and I become so weak
Like one more laugh to make it through the day
One more smile for one more good night
But you raise your voice again
And shatter my soul,
Punish the girl, she’s so wrong
She’s headed down, there’s no saving her now
She forgot that sometimes it’s a little too much
To much to ask for a night alone
A made bed
And an open window
For a quick escape
A bag to throw my thoughts into
A shoulder to catch my head
And a palm to catch the scattered tears
She said the bottle’s half empty
Never half full
Here’s a quick punch to blacken your eye
She’s broken
Her mouth ajar
Her eyes squinted shut
She’s broken, she’s gone
She’s a little too lonesome
Look down, she’s there on the floor
Bloody knee’s, scratched hands
She heaves from deep in her
Trying to cough him up,
She wont hurt for him anymore
He’s nothing she’ll ever let herself reach for again
She doesn’t have to hurt anymore
She’s not living in his house,
She’s not a child
She’s removed herself from his abuse
She refuses to be called his daughter
She waved goodbye to him,
Long before this day came
It brought her back to the first day he brought her to tears
The day he told her that she couldn’t do it,
He said she was too stupid, said she wasn’t capable
