It began softly
I thought it was just because of the day
Maybe you knew the stars would not come out that night
Or the shade of the sky was just a shade too gray

You threw me off you
Said it was my heart you could not take
Said it beat to softly,
Said you knew how to throw it all away

I let it go, told myself I still needed you
Without you there wasn’t a night or day I could face
She was so weak
And so terribly wrong

Because the first time he hit her
She told him it was his very last
His final mistake,

She started to let herself live
Starting each day with a breath for herself
She started to pick up all the pieces
beginning to rebuild,
Making sure he was completely gone
She had become stronger
Her days became easier to carryon

Her eyes grew a shade more blue
Her head lifted out of the dirt and now her eyes were looking into the sky
She didn’t have him to pull her down

She didn’t feel broken
She didn’t have her constant worries
There wasn’t days now,
Where all she did was hold her breath

She had come up for air,
From the world he had drowned her from
She pulled the pillow off
that he had covered over her head
she awoke from the nightmare
he forced her to live
