“The Man On The Bank”
Pull at the chains you’re bound to
give a tug against the steel circle
clenching tightly to your left ankle
like hands grasping your neck
they’ll choke your air supply
and they will limit you to
the area trapped beneath the sky
and my lad when you break free
let me tell you about where you can find me
I will be in the lounge on the top deck
sipping at whiskey and counting the stars
high above the hatred and opinions
floating on along a green river
there is a man on the bank
and he is playing a bass guitar
conjuring up a rock in our path
yeah now the boat sank
and we are swimming yes to him
there is a man on the bank
says he was born on a lake
and he is playing so sweet on his bass
and I and my comrades play along and sing
not for anybody to put on an album
not for anybody to buy at their local
record store
just for the sake of making life worth living
there is a man on the back of the bank
plucking out each note one at a time
and I am throwing my voice into the wind
I am serenading an imaginary friend
he is locked in a jail cell
and his left ankle is tied down
I beg for him to give his chains a tug
break free and I will let you come join
the Jade Theatre traveling the river system
flowing downstream
there is a man on the bank
and he is playing bass…….
