My Suicidal Friend

If I knew I wouldn’t get another chance,
I would have held you tight.
If I knew this would be the last,
I would have kept you in my sight.
If I knew I wouldn’t see you ever again,
I would have said naught but three words plus two.
If I had known time was short,
I’d have told you, “I will always love you.”
If I’d have had but one last goodbye,
Maybe then I’d no longer despair.
If I had just one day longer,
I’d spend it with you, and nothing could compare.
If I could have been there, my suicidal friend,
To pry the blade from your hand.
Then I wouldn’t be standing here.
Crying and dying as I watch them bury you in the sand.
