When I Believed In True Love

There once was a time, when I believed in true love
And you could float on cloud 9, to the Heavens above
True love would last forever, ‘cause it would conquer all
No matter what you put it through, be it great or small
When true love had filled your heart, to it you become a slave
Protect it you would for eternity, taking it to your grave
Even when things were at it’s worst, never thought to throw true love away
‘Cause without it your world couldn’t exist, true love was there to stay
When completely consumed by true love, your heart speeds up it’s beat
In your tummy’s a thousand “flutterbies”, and your body exudes heat
True love would never lie to you, just to have it’s way
And if you just need it to listen, it would hear every word you say
True love would hold you tight in it’s arms, not wanting to ever let go
All will know where true love resides, when they see it’s radiant glow
I never thought true love would hurt you, or intentionally cause you pain
For true love should make you happy, not drive you clinically insane
Life seemed more fulfilling, when I believed in such a thing
As wonderful as being in true love, my heart couldn’t help but sing
But now my heart has grown silent, disappointment not able to hide
No longer believing in true love, ‘cause it tore me all up inside
