Inside Herself

she lives inside herself;
never apologizes. never explains.
excuses are for the pitifully weak.
never forgive. never believe in change.
she circles herself around the hole in her heart,
carving her footsteps in your place.
she leaves her wounds open and raw,
exposing herself; salting them for the pain.
lets the dogs come and lick her sores;
she’s lost and alone inside herself
a frozen memory; a still photograph.
unable to function inside herself.
incomplete and hollow inside herself
dead and numb to all else that exists
your sweet voice and persuasive innocence
far too much for her to resist
she despises this reprehensible reality
she wishes only to live in the past
everyday to be in your arms, to feel the security
to be a little girl where happiness eternally lasts
to wish away all of the pain and hurt and guilt
to wish away the monsters that haunt her dreams
to wish away every nightmare awoken to in cold sweat
to wish away her loudest voice in which she screams
hold my beating heart in your frozen hands
feel it breaking in your palm?
now sew the shattered pieces back together
as the diluted blood flows down your arm
she lives inside herself
never apologize. never explain.
