Staged Death

The scene is set and I am in position
I’m nervous with seconds till transition
Call forth the hands of stage
I go over the lines page by page
So far the show has gone steady
It is time to die, and I am ready
But they don’t know what comes next
Curtains rise and the audience perplexed
For there is only me alone in spotlight
As I recite the lines they know something’s not right
But there is something they don’t know
That is, this is my last and final show
It is time to die, for real and in play
The last line has been read and allay
I thrust the knife deep into my heart
But prop knife not, not for this part
True death for me on my last and final stance
My last act, my last play, my last performance
