Solitude

The words in your voice
Ring sweet in my ears—
A lullaby to the broken one
Who cries in solitude,
Every night alone.
But all the light
You could ever shine
Could never take
The pain away.
The wounds are too deep,
And my soul too frayed.
Even love cannot mend
The hate breaking through—
Jutting spikes
That rip me apart,
Piece by piece,
In my solitude.
The death has already fallen,
And I am hollow.
You try so hard—
But you can’t see:
There is nothing left
To be saved.
And nothing you do
Can heal my scars.
So let the world rest,
Let me slip away,
Silent,
As you know me to be.
And time will mend you,
Easily,
As I know you.
Memories remain,
But the worst has passed.
And you will live,
As I could never.
