Math

It sits in front of me;
Another language entirely.

I understand the lines and numbers
And with this thought I stop and falter.

I lay the ruler out and yet,
The line still is not straight.

I stop to wonder why open ended writing questions are in the book...

And why they are assigned to us.

Math is a language of numbers.
Black and white.

Not letters that are smudged together,
And where definitions are unclear.

The math becomes my life;

My seeking clarity, and purpose.
Just as all others.
