One long ago day,
Under a tree,
A boy met a girl,
And the girl met he.
It was love at first sight,
As it so rarely can be.

Under their tree
The two lovers were wed.
They had several children,
With one small bed.
This house would not do.
To the East they would head.

This boy and this girl
Set off to the East.
They went without plan,
No money nor means.
They started a life
In a vast field of green.

They worked long and hard,
They grew and sold grain,
They worked through the heat,
The snow, and the rain.
Only pride to show,
For their troubles and pain.

On a visit one day,
To the tree where they wed,
A lightning bolt struck,
It struck the two dead.
The children were small,
With no way to be fed.

In the weeks that followed,
The children all died.
The youngest two first,
they coughed and they cried.
Then the four others,
No more will they rise.

This story's not sad.
Well maybe to you...
Our friends only showed
What we already knew,
Causing pain and remorse
Is all love can do.
