You Promised Me

I look at your picture and nearly faint
I don't know if I can take this anymore
The thought of you not being by my side
It's killing me.

You promised me you'd be okay
You promised me you'd be back in my arms soon
You PROMISED ME!!

It started off
Just an ordinary day
I got up
And was doing my normal house work
You said you'd try to call today
So, when the phone rang
I raced to answer.

But, what and who I heard
Had nothing to do with your phone call.

The voice on the other end
Said they're had been an attack
He was sorry
And that you were a good man.

Before he hung up
He said ma'am
Right before he died
He manage to speak
"Tell my wife I'm sorry I broke my promise."
I'm sorry ma'am..He really was a good man.

"Oh God, Why? Why?" I choked
I just didn't understand
I wish this was just a bad dream.

As I hear the salute
The guns going off
To mark a soldier's death
A tear consumes my cheek.

No one understands what I'm going through
NO ONE!
Not even you...
