Look back to the day
Days before grandma died
I still had a mentor
She was a woman with much class
A woman of such sublime thoughts
She could vanish even the deepest of sadness with just one smile
She was far from flawless
But she told me,
Child, every mistake is an opportunity to learn and grow
But I admired her for that
She was still striving to do her best
While being stepped on by diminishing words
She wanted to see us happy
To pull us out of the deepest depression
Told me boys weren’t meant to be loved
Their hearts would always remain cold
And I remember the day she left grandpa
She never shined brighter
I had never seen a woman with such strength
Such beauty and such power
And she wore her pearls that day,
The pearls she said were to be displayed, not to be worn
She told them,
I’d have a thousand long cries alone
Than have to deal another day with his fractured love
And when grandpa died
She lowered her head
And she cried
She longed for him
She said loves deeper than pride
Its miles thick
She told me, you can not help whom you love
Love isn’t part of mind or body
But is all of your heart
And I remember when she told me
“When he takes you for his bride,
Love him through his sickness, through his health”
Don’t miss a moment, “ through the good and bad”
“ Until death do his part”.
