The Way You Did Before

I guess you'll never love me
the way you did before
or else you wouldn't let me
walk out through this door.
Maybe I've done something
that you cannot forgive,
but without your forgiveness,
how am I to live?
And since you can't forget
I guess that we will part,
and I'll try not to cry
though it breaks my heart.
And maybe with distance,
and a little bit of time,
you will realize the love
you had when you had mine.
So for now I'll say goodbye
and walk out that door,
and hope someday you'll love me
the way you did before.
