Dark Suffocation

Lying in darkness, eyes open shut
Waiting for sleep to come
Listening to the steady rhythm
Of my own heartbeat

Night so black that shadows run
Night so cold it extinguishes the sun
Night so enveloping it embraces me,
Hugs me with silken arms

Sunlight peering through the window
Dancing on my face
Sunlight crashing through my dreams,
Forcing me to awake

Light so bright it blinds me
Light so bright it can't be seen
Light so warm it suffocates me,
Squeezes out the very essence of my being.
