A tough day at work.
Daddy comes home, to his relief.
He snaps at the children
Then smokes his weed.
Unaware of their knowledge
The damage is done.
Bleach.

Mom listens to dad, practically his slave.
Always so uptight, but she smiles for her children’s sake.
But they know.
The children know.
Bleach.

Little sister is weak.
She often sobs, not proud of
Her dad the addict.
So she surrounds herself with bright things.
Bleach.

Their house is lovely
Sprawled out on a lake.
Yet their air smells of
Cigarettes , beer and weed.
A bad environment for a child, indeed.
So they occupy themselves with school.
Bleach.

Now daddy’s yelling again
Threatening, hitting.
The children run away, mom faces him.
As her children hear her screams.
But then, they stop.
Mother is gone.
Daddy is here.
Bleach.
