Every single day
They will sit up for hours,
Caking on all their make-up, shadowing the true them.
Slipping into the short skirts or cut off shirts, a few sizes to small.
Then tossing their hair to look, “Just Right.”
All the while doing this, they hide themselves from the truth,
And the true beauty inside.
Years go on and on,
And makeup doesn’t do it anymore.
So they get the nose jobs,
The breast implants,
Face lifts and tummy tucks,
Just to feel pretty.
When all along that beauty was inside,
Hidden away.
Locked up under the mascara and blush,
Hiding from the world,
Just to meet today’s society,
And their ideas of what “Beauty” just so happens to be.
You can buy all those new creams,
And new designer clothes,
Get that nose job, and all the other treatments.
But forever I still see
The beauty you went and hid from me.
