i keep thinking that a change
in the weather will also
mean a change in my life.

when the leaves change color,
i hope that my mood will lift
and the cool air i breathe
fills me well.

the trail ahead is a simple
line where i travel from
start to finish.

along the way, i pause,
not long enough, but i stop
to admire the view.

i don't think about grand
ideas nor do i whistle
a tune.

i just walk and sometimes
ponder whatever the trees
whisper into my ear.

and as the evening stars
peak into my tent,

as the wind brings a chill
to my chin,

and as the insects send
signals off into the night,

i fall asleep tired
and satisfied.
