A SHADOW IN THE LIGHT

Sunlight greets the sky as it kisses the buckling pavement
A crisp wind gently blows, wiping the tears from the blades of grass
As the heat wilts the leaves on the blooming trees
A Swallowtail Butterfly flutters pass in all of its brilliance only to be
captured from mid-flight

A child innocently plays, while another is snatched away
Seeking answers to a prayer, only to doubt if it’s heard
A selfless act of generosity and love
Appreciated with a stray bullet, a thoughtless act of hate and crime

A darkness, a gloom, a saddening influence to everything good and just
Hidden dreams and hindered emotions
A vilification of reality, kicked down from a level of stability
Hanging on for dear life to the ledge of sanity

Rain…
Sometimes signifies obscurity, a hidden or inconspicuous abrasion of a
broken heart
It can sometimes signal a season of mass destruction of the physical
Paving the way for the annihilation of the mental

But through all of this, there is “a light at the end of the tunnel”
After it rains, the storm clouds vanish
The shadows are diminished, and there is a prism of light
A second chance to make things right, to change a life

You can see it in the sky, In a pool of water, or in a wave of heat
You can see it as a reflection of yourself; it’s always there
You can turn it around and use it as an arch of hope, an effervesce of joy
You can use it to your advantage, and call it… Your Shadow in the Light
