She cuts her wrists with broken glass
And lets it bleed so they can see the scars.
She cries herself to sleep at night,
Wishing she didn’t have it so hard.

Across the street a boy is crying—
Mommy lost her job; no food again.
He squeezes her with all his strength.
“We’ll be all right,” he says.

She hugs her tear-stained pillow
And curses at the sky—
If Daddy really loved her,
He would let her date this guy.

Down the block a man is begging
For a dollar, for some shelter.
People pass him by so quickly;
No one seems to care.

She looks out her window,
Doesn’t know it’s cold out there.
If only she’d been born as someone else—
Life is so unfair.
