A stab to the heart
But the wound never showed.
You don’t have to look me in the eye—
Just take my lies for your truth and go.
And if you happen to return,
We’ll be different people,
Living in a different world.
I’ll smile and say I’m happy for you,
And you won’t even see the lie.
You thought you knew me,
But I’ve changed—
Or maybe I’m just the same
In a world that’s become indifferent to the past.
She’s so beautiful,
So unlike me.
But that’s just what you wanted, isn’t it?
I’ll be the cracked china doll,
Dancing with cobwebs in the corner.
The one you can smile at
And realize just how perfect your new life is.
Maybe you’ll bring her into your room,
And I’ll watch the two of you from my corner.
You’ll whisper promises about forever in her ear
And watch her eyes fill up with dreams.
But when you break her heart,
You won’t be around long enough to hear her ask,
“What happened to forever?”
