bruised sunset

The world turns dark
The rain pounding from grey nothingness
She can’t see
with her eyes sewn shut with tears
Her wings are sore
And bruised
Her wounds burn
as each raindrop
pours in
But she puts his face in her mind
Does the sky
seem bluer?
She forces open her eyes
and looks over
She sees a blinding light
and his familiar face walking through it
Her tears evaporate
She rises
stumbling and shaking
She reaches a hand
out towards him
A wind blows
and she falls
Closing her eyes
expecting the jolt
of the ground
but her body never hits it
For he caught her
Her eyes open
She sees his face
and feels his arms around her
She stares into an eternal horizon
with a clear sky
and setting sun which
she hasn’t seen in a long time
Her wounds
begin to heal
She takes
her first step
With him to guide
her to happiness
They walk
towards the sunset
He pulls her
Up into the sky
He holds her
As they fly
her wings spread
as if fixed by magic
And she soars
Almost independently
With him
Still holding her hand
She finds her home
in his arms
